Updates

Friday
Took an impromptu half day yesterday after our cable modem decided to have a nervous breakdown and restart every few minutes or so. Since our telephone is routed through the cable modem, that didn’t work either. If you’re a telecommuter and you can’t make phone calls and do internetty stuff, you’re kinda not doing much work. A cell phone call to the local cable monopoly and an hour of check-the-cables-what-lights-are-blinking revealed that the modem was in fact no good. A technician has been dispatched and will be there between 8 and 5 tomorrow. Fantastic.

So Kate and I hit the road and cruised around our new town. I got a library card and Kate got a Moolatte at the local DQ. I returned to the southern old-man haircuttery for a trim, and then we cruised around the surrounding towns for a while. All part of moving to some other part of the world… getting to know your way around.

Saturday
Today I helped Kate with some of her crafts, and we took a walk around the neighborhood after the cable guy left. Local cable monopoly’s tech arrived around 4:50pm today, right on time. Sigh. I get a little annoyed when the technology isn’t working, but it’s not so bad in the grand scheme of things. I wouldn’t have had a half day without the modem failure.
