Ted is Eight Months Old

Ted making a silly face

For those keeping track, Ted is now eight months young.  I’d say unlike previous month-to-month dramatic changes, Eight-month-old Ted is somewhat similar to Seven-month-old Ted… although he’s more refined in what he can already do.  He eats solid food (as he could last month), but can now pinch together his index finger and thumb and pick up and eat his little food puffs (most of the time).

More goofy-faced Ted

Also new this month is him pointing his arms in the direction of the person he wants to have pick him up. For example, if I’m holding him and he wants Kate to hold him, he’ll lean towards her with his arms outstretched.  Developmentally this is good, but it means I’ve got to pay close attention to him while holding him, lest he lunge towards a familiar face and toss me off balance.

Ted makes a goatee with food.

He is futuristic in his eighth month, using Skype to communicate with lots of his relatives.  He gave Thanksgiving shout-outs via live video this year.  The New York Times ran an article about just this sort of of thing this past week, good reading.

That thumb and first finger grasp is called a “neat pincher grasp”, very advanced kid…and also very cute.

I have a photo of Ted using that thumb and index finger to PINCH his cousin, Jack, on the leg!
I’ll send it along to Kate and Patrick.

I’m pretty familiar with my photos at the moment. I’m working on the calendars. One done and one to go!

Get used to the lunging thing. Jack is 14 months and still does it. The bigger he gets the more enthusiastic the lunge! They have no idea of the potential consequences of throwing the “holder” off balance.
