Ted Enjoys Seeing Flying Animals

Posted by Patrick on March 11th, 2009

Ted’s the kind of guy who likes a good laugh.  Helps him keep it real and handle the stress of getting older.  Kate filmed this fine example of Ted laughing until-we-had-to-stop-before-he-passed-out.

Forty-eighth and Forty-ninth Weekiversaries

Ted and I have been very busy these days.  Which is a very good thing.  Ted loves getting together with his friends.  In his 48th week we went to a playgroup, went shopping with friends, and went to another Movement and Music class.  While at the music class I realized that another one of Ted’s teeth is coming in.  It is on the bottom to the left of the two he already has down there.  So we finally started brushing his teeth.  We got him a toddler toothbrush and toothpaste and he really seems to like it, especially when Dad helps.

In his 49th week we hosted playgroups on Tuesday and Thursday for two of the moms groups we are in.  Then Friday we went for a walk with friends and then had the kids play at one of the mom’s house.  Ted is a little social butterfly following the other kids around and making sure he is in the center of things at all times.

Ted’s latest thing is attacking Zoe.  She is a very social cat and likes to be near us.  Ted likes to get right up in her face and flail his arms at her.  She definitely does not like that, as you could imagine.  She still sticks around though, she holds her ground.  One of these days she is going to let him have it.

Ted also signed for the first time.  He was really good at signing “more” for a day.  Now he tends to clap instead.  But at least he has inspired me to be better about signing for him.  He is also really good at giving high-fives.  He has been pointing a lot too.  And when we read his That’s Not My Kitten book, if I don’t reach out and touch the textures, he will take my hand and make me feel them.  He can stack his wooden blocks four high.  He also walks while pushing his Mickey Mouse Plane.

He finds my laptop irresistible.  One time I forgot it on my chair while I was making breakfast.  When I peeked into the living room he was standing up to the chair gently hitting the keys over and over.  So funny.  It was making nearly the same noise as when I type.

His latest foods are beef, tomato, and pasta.  He is loving fruit salad.  Whenever I am eating it he hangs around my seat like a little puppy dog to get bites.

Auto Show

Posted by Patrick on March 4th, 2009

Kate and Ted and I stopped by the North Carolina International Auto Show the other day. Ted enjoyed they shinyness of the cars for sure.

Here he is in the front seat of a new Dodge Challenger. Such a nice car on the outside. Kind of so-so on the inside.

This is the engine from an Audi R8. This will be my next car, assuming my lottery plans pan out.

Ted likes motorcycles.

Ted is Eleven Months Old

Posted by Patrick on March 1st, 2009

Ted is growing in ability and dexterity in great leaps and bounds these days. Compared to last month, he can now crawl along in the traditional crawling style with his belly totally off the ground… and at tremendous speed!  We’ve had to block off portions of the living room so he doesn’t crawl away while we blink.   We posted a little video of it the other day in case you didn’t see it.

He babbles a bit more now, usually when we’re trying to feed him.  With food he’s either super hungry or up for a spoon fight.  Most of the time he eats though, and eats alot.  Every night I’m bringing handfuls of baby food jars out to the recycle bin.   Kate is still introducing him to new foods on a regular basis, so hopefully he won’t be as vegetable-averse as his father it.

And he hi-five’s now!  We need to get that on video.  He doesn’t like to be left hanging, by the way, so if you happen to see him and he offers you a hi-five, you better respond appropriately.  Otherwide you might get the eyebrow.

New teeth this past week to, definitely one on the lower jaw and possibly one coming in up top.  Its made for a few sleep-deprived nights.  Hopefully he uses these new choppers to chew some of his food.

It’s crazy to believe how close to a year he is now!  He’s very excited that some of his yankee peeps are coming down to celebrate.

Forty-sixth and Forty-seventh Weekiversaries

I can’t believe two weeks have already gone by since my last post!  I know I say this over and over, but I feel time is passing at hyper-speed.

Ted has figured out how to get down from a standing position.  Thank goodness.  That is a very important skill.  He has become an expert on pulling himself up and does it on everything.  He speed crawls around and pulls himself up to the couch or the toy box and stands and plays awhile then gets down and crawls again.  He chases me down and we walk around with me holding his hands.  He also has figured out how to climb the stairs.

We went to a music and movement class for the first time.  Ted loved it.  He loves watching the big kids (yes that means 18 months and 2 year olds) and trying to imitate them.  He did all the movement with me walking him along holding his hands.  He would try to go faster when the the big kids went faster and slowed down when they did.  He did mostly just try to eat the noisemakers and other props, but other than that he seemed to really “get” the class.  I am considering signing him up for a weekly class once I find out how much it would cost.

We hosted playgroup here this week.  Ted did great sharing his toys.  There were six other kids here ranging in age from 6 months to 15 months.  All but the six month old were either crawling or walking.  Pretty crazy sight.  I served hot cocoa, coffee, banana bread (with and without chocolate chips) and fruit salad.  The other moms mostly ate the banana bread without the chocolate chips so they could share with their kids.  I ended up eating way too much banana bread that day.  It came out very good.

His latest foods are turkey, spinach, and american cheese.  I tried giving him some banana bread and he ate it, but I won’t be doing that again.  No pears or bananas for Ted.  All baby food mixed fruits are either mixed with bananas, pears, or apples.  Ted eats a lot of apples.dsc005571
