Catching Up

Parties of the clandestine sort
So I was all going to blog about this super sweet surprise birthday party my fam threw for me (right after the last party we went to) when - all of a sudden - my dad posted about it! I thought I sensed a disturbance in the internet force. Nice to see that a blog can come back after a long hiatus. (ahem).

It was good times, I was totally surprised! Getting to eat at Chelo’s is one of those things I’d like to do on every New England trip, but since we moved our time up north is usually too limited. I had the roast beef sandwich, which is super tasty and I think their specialty (besides cake). I thought I was stuffed, but found more eating room when some birthday cake was brought to the table.

It was good food and good prizes including a certain robot movie on dvd, a new tv remote so we can see all channels our tv provides over the airwaves, and lots of gift cards including one to Home Depot which we used to….

TedPrep
…. get paint and brushes to paint Ted’s room. His room is pretty close to being baby-ready now thanks to all the sweet gifts people keep sending him, but the walls were plain white, so we got a couple of gallons of a light blue paint and went to town. I think it’s the nicest looking room in the house now. We’ll post some photos soon.

Pancakes!
Back in the day my mom would make us pancakes for supper from Corn Muffin mix. I’m not sure I ever saw a box of corn muffin mix be transformed into muffins, but they always made good pancakes. I hadn’t ever run into them in the outside world though.

Tonight we ventured to the International House of Pancakes which just opened in the town next to us for some fine dining. To my surprise (and pancake-related joy) I found that they now serve corn muffin pancakes! I ordered some and they were almost exactly like I remember… except mom never served them with the carafe of coffee like IHOP does (probably for good reason).

A Week in Review

Posted by Patrick on January 13th, 2008

This past week and weekend were busy, but good. My work was very busy, but I did manage to sneak out on Wednesday to meet up with Kate for some more ultrasound action. We got to see Ted wave his hands and wiggle his toes. Too early to tell if he has the classic Irish nose that my father and I share, but he did look pretty cute and happy there. The doctor said that he’s got all the required fingers and toes and that he’s the right size for the number of weeks-in he’s at.

I also found time to finally fix our broken photo gallery here on Rockland-ave.com. It lives again, with all the old pics still in place. Apparently the hosting company upgraded their software, which screwed up our installation, resulting in me having to uninstall and reinstall the gallery a few times. We use the super-sweet open-source software called Gallery, by the way, which is great if you’re into the whole hosting-photos-on-your-own-website thing.

Friday night we went to Kat and Matt’s place where we were served Sukiyaki. It was tasty food, and good to see them again!

Saturday we hung around, did some Ted’s-room related crafts, and then at night went out to see the movie Juno. It was a good movie, filled with quality actors and actresses. The soundtrack was also excellent, as we picked it up on our way home the movie.

Today was comparatively lazy. I slept in, then went to visit DJ at his place. He got a Wii for Christmas, so we played some Metroid and some Super Mario. The Wii remote controller is great, it’s such a departure from traditional gameplay with its waving and pointing and whatnot. I bet Ted would like it.

Quite a week. Next weekend will be exciting as we’ll be back up in New England!

A few things.

Moe’s Southwestern Grill

Kate suggested I pick up some supper from Moe’s the other night. It was tasty food, and plenty of it. It was like a Mexican-food Subway (although nicer/more expensive then Subway), where they sort of custom make your food in front of you. I had something called a Joey Bag of Donuts (which had, for the record, zero donuts) and Kate had a burrito known as the Homewrecker. They also throw in a bunch of tortilla chips, which was a nice touch. Good eats.

Tools for Homeowners

For agreeing to act as Kristen and Josh’s Best Man Maid of Honor well-dressed witness in their recent hitching, they were kind enough to get me a prize. It was a box full of tools! A power drill and saws and a sander and a way way bright flashlight and an industrial dustbuster.

Kristen suggested I build a crib with the tools. Based on our prior building history, Kate suggested I perhaps start with building some shelves. Shelves seem like a good start.

Southern Living

It was 84 out today. In October! I’m thinking on Halloween night, NC parents don’t have to work their kid’s costumes around their winter coats. We’re both very curious about what our first Halloween as homeowners will be like.
